About The Area

Set in the heart of Australian Heritage, Tenterfield District is surrounded by a wide variety of National Parks and is the gate way to both the New England and Northern Rivers Regions. The major centre of the region is Tenterfield, surrounded by the villages of Drake, Jennings, Legume, Liston, Torrington and Urbenville – each, as you will discover, with their own unique character.

Tenterfield is an attractive country town with many historic buildings dating back to the mid-19th century. Surrounded by national parks and vineyards, it is also known for its autumn colours.

Walk through historic Tenterfield, which has more than 100 heritage-listed buildings, stopping at the Sir Henry Parkes Memorial School of Arts Museum.

Dont miss the Tenterfield Saddlery, made famous by Peter Allen's song "Tenterfield Saddler", a tribute to his grandfather who ran the saddlery from 1908 to 1960.

Step onto the viewing platform at Boonoo Boonoo Falls in Bald Rock National Park to see the river plunge 210 metres.

Tenterfield is a town in New South Wales, Australia. It is located in the New England region at the intersection of the New England and Bruxner Highways.

Tenterfield is a three-hour drive from Brisbane, 2.5 hours from Byron Bay, two hours from Armidale, New South Wales and 7 hours from Sydney.

The town sits in a valley astride the Great Dividing Range. At the 2011 census, Tenterfield had a population of 3,000.

Tenterfield is close to many regional centres and its position on the route between Sydney and Brisbane led to its development as a centre for the promotion of the federation of the Australian colonies.
